HORNELL Jean M. Crook, 89, formerly of Canisteo St., passed away early Tuesday morning (October 18, 2016) at Elderwood in North Hornell.
Born in Susguehanna, Pa. on May 12, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary Franks Crook. Besides her parents Jean was also predeceased by her brothers Francis of Ohio and Donald of Colorado.
A resident of Hornell since the age of 2, Jean was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and a 1945 graduate of Hornell High School. She also attended Bryant and Stratton Business School in Buffalo.
She was employed by the City of Hornell for 10 years, at the accounting bureau of the former Erie and Erie-Lackawanna Railroads in Hornell and Scranton, Pa., and at Westinghouse, now known as Phillips Lighting in Bath, before her retirement.
Jean was a charter member of the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church, a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, attending St. Ann’s Church and was a member of the Perpetual Adoration and the Rosary and Altar Society. She was also a member of the Hornell Fortnightly Club and the Hornell Area Arts Council.
Jean is survived by several nieces and nephews including her nephew Michael (Judy) Crook and her niece Patty Ann who she raised as her daughter. She is also survived by her lifelong friend Mary Jane Price.

There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Hornell.
