HORNELL- John J. Kline, 92, passed away October 19, 2016 at St. James Hospital following a sudden illness, with his family by his side.
Born in Syracuse, NY on September 1, 1924 he was the son of the late John and Agnes Barry Kline.
John served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
John was employed as a technician at Bell Telephone/Western Electric currently known as Verizon. He retired after 40 years of service.
John traveled throughout New York for his job. His one assignment changed his life when he fell in love with a telephone operator, Patricia McCormick, whom became his wife for 39 years.
John was a kind man, loving husband, devoted father and loyal family man. John had a strong fortitude and a spirit of acceptance. He was a quiet and gentle man who enjoyed the simple things in life.
John’s day always started with his daily newspaper. Everything he did included his best friend/wife Patricia and his children. He loved spending time with his family and dogs on his front porch.
Air shows were a favorite, but seeing a passing plane was just as exciting. John could spend hours with all his treasures in his garage and basement. Day trips and finding adventures on the way were always fun for him. His favorite and top priority was caring for his family, providing a safe and happy home and loving his four legged friends.
He will be greatly missed.
John was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and attended St. Ann’s church.
John was predeceased by his parents, his wife Patricia in 2001 and his sister Beatrice Polhamus.
His loving family includes his son John P. Kline, his daughter Elizabeth Kline both of Hornell. His niece Linda (Michael) Fantacone of Syracuse; also his in-laws Thomas (Rosemary) McCormick of Hornell, Ann (James) Obrien of Attica, Jean Laganegro (the late Jack) of Elmira, Jane Hoeffner (the late Robert) of Santa Fe, New Mexico and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Ann’s Church.
Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
