|JOHN F. “JACK” CREGAN
HORNELL/LOON LAKE/NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla.-John F. “Jack” Cregan, 94, recently passed away peacefully in New Port Richey, Fla. on Saturday (June 18, 2016), following a brief illness. Jack was born in Hornell on Feb. 22, 1922 to John F. and Alice (Nugent) Cregan; one of five brothers and two sisters.
He was a graduate of Hornell High School , class of 1940. Following his military service during World War II in the Army Air Corps, Jack lived, worked and raised his family in Hornell. He married his wife, Elizabeth (McChesney) Cregan in 1946, who predeceased him in 2004 after 58 years of marriage.
Following a career working for the Erie Railroad, the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and Conrail as a Communications Supervisor, Jack retired in 1982. He and his wife Elizabeth then enjoyed their time between residences at Loon Lake and New Port Richey, Fla.
Jack was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell and served as a member of the Parish Council for many years and eventually serving as president. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell, the Hornell Elks Lodge and the Hornell Council, Knights of Columbus. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Twin Hickory Golf Club in Hornell for many years.
Jack is survived by his two sons, David (Kathy) Cregan of Almond and Kevin (Rae) Cregan of New Port Richey, Fla. and his daughter, Nancy (William) Peck of Ontario, N.Y. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
To honor his request there were no calling hours. A Memorial Mass, attended by his entire family, was held at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in New Port Richey, Fla. on Friday, June 24, 2016. Committal prayers and burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hornell at the convenience of the family.
