STEPHEN T. McHALE



HORNELL-Stephen T. McHale, 76, of Terry St., passed away Tuesday evening (May 3, 2016) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Born in Hornell on Sept. 7, 1939, he was a son of the late Celestine “Michael” and Twila Meyers McHale. On Nov. 26, 1981 he was married in Hornell to the former Linda Burse, who survives.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Steve was a graduate of Hornell high School, class of 1958 and proudly served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to his honorable discharge as a Lance Corporal in 1961; he continued to serve with the Marine Corps Reserves until 1964.

Before his retirement in 1996 he was employed for 37 years by the former Foster-Wheeler Energy Corp. in Dansville. After retiring he was employed as a Security Guard at the New York State Office Building in Hornell.

Steve was an active member, and held all the offices, as well as serving three terms as President of the American War Dads. He was also a member of the Hornell Am Vets Post No. 245, the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell and the Hornell Elks Lodge No. 364.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

His loving family includes his wife of 34 years, Linda; his daughter, Constance McHale of Arkport; his son, David McHale of Gunnison, Colo; his two stepdaughters, Christine (David) Larnard of Arkport and Jeanette (Peter) Traeg of Greece, N.Y.; his stepson, Douglas Bebout of Hornell; also several grandchildren, step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; his two brothers, James (Lucille) McHale of (Lake Wallenpaupack,) Tafton, Pa. and Joseph (Julie) McHale of Hornell; also his nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his two brothers, Thomas McHale and Raymond McHale.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. , 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to serve the family of Stephen T. McHale.

To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Private interment, with military honors, will be held at Bath National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
