NORTH HORNELL-Paul L. Polasik, 90, passed away peacefully early Thursday afternoon (June 4, 2015) at his home on Cleveland Ave.
Born in Salamanca on Nov. 26, 1924, he was a son of the late Louis and Josephine Zelinski Polasik. On Nov. 24, 1956 he was married in Salamanca to the former Betty Ambuske, who survives.
A former resident of Salamanca, Paul was a graduate of Salamanca High School and became a resident of Hornell in 1965 and has resided in the Village of North Hornell since 1971..
He was employed for the former Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and retired from Conrail in 1983 as a diesel mechanic.
Paul was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. He was also a life member of the Holy Cross Athletic Club in Salamanca.
He devoted much of his time to volunteering for the Salvation Army, the Steuben County Rural Ministry, the Food Pantry and the Sister Jude Giveaway. Often he could be seen mowing the lawn and tending to the flowers at the entrance of St. Mary’s Cemetery in the Town of Fremont. He also enjoyed repairing bicycles.
His loving family includes his wife of 58 years, Betty; his twin sons, James and John Polasik both of Jacksonville, Fl., his sons, Eugene (Laurie) Polasik of Bainbridge and David Polasik of North Hornell; his three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Julie and Amanda Polasik; his brother, Carl Polasik of Salamanca; his two sisters, Anastasia Sipko and Marie Griehm both of Salamanca; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Polasik of Gowanda; also his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his daughter, Paulette Polasik in 1981; his two brothers, Raymond Polasik and Leo Polasik; his sister and brother-in-law, Lucille (Floyd) Budzinski and his two brothers-in-law, Stan Sipko and Henry Griehm
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Paul L. Polasik.
To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours. A private service will be held in his memory at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont at the convenience of the family, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.
