HORNELL-Robert Melvin Clark, 84, of Hornell, passed away early Thursday morning (May 14, 2015) at Hornell Gardens, after a short illness.
Born in Hornell on Dec. 21, 1930, he was a son of the late Harlo and Isabelle Monaghan Clark. He was married in 1971 to the former Florence Fridenburg of Dover Plains, N.Y., who predeceased him in 1987. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his sister, Ruth McInerney and his brother, James Clark.
A graduate of Hornell High School, Bob received a bachelor’s degree from SUNY at Albany. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1951 to his honorable discharge in 1955 and was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
Bob was a former resident of Dover Plains, N.Y. and was communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Millbrook, N.Y. Before his retirement he was employed for about 12 years for the NYSDOT in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. After retiring he returned to Hornell to reside where he was a communicant of the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church and was most recently a communicant of St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish.
His loving family includes his two sisters, Mary Lou Kelleher of Rochester and Helen “Jean” Kubiak of Hornell; as well as his nieces and nephews.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Robert Melvin Clark.
Calling hours are 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet his family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, followed by military honors. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Millbrook, N.Y.
The United States flag and the Navy flag will proudly fly at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in recognition of Bob’s military service.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
