|MERVA C. LECKINGER
MONTOUR FALLS/AVOCA-Merva C. Leckinger, a resident at the New Falls Home in Montour Falls and previously from Avoca, died Saturday (September 6, 2014) at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, after a short illness.
Born in Rochester on May 17, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Amelia Scheck. In 1949, Merva married her loving husband of 55 years, Francis G. “Frank” Leckinger, who predeceased her in 2004. Together, they owned the Goodrich Center Motel in Avoca for over 20 years.
She was a woman of great faith, always active in the Catholic church. She enjoyed crocheting countless baby “baptism blankets” and donating them to St. Mary’s Church in Bath.
Her family includes her daughter, Donna Studley of Corning; her son-in-law, Mark Studley of Caton; her sister, Lucille (Charles) Gursslin of Hendersonville, NC; her three granddaughters, Kerrie (Ryan) Peterson of Greenville, NC, Kammie (John) Towey of Fountain Springs, PA and Kallie (Nathan) Wasilus of Barry Township, PA; her six great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Merva was also predeceased by her brother, Ed Scheck and her sister, Dorothy Scheck.
The Avoca Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Merva C. Leckinger.
There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be alongside her husband at Valley View Cemetery in Avoca.
