|ELEANOR J. “ELLIE” PARTRIDGE
AVOCA-Eleanor J. “Ellie” Partridge, 78, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (June 19, 2014) at her home on County Route 6.
Born in Wayland on Sept. 5, 1935 she was a daughter of the late Hayden and Geraldine Lang Luckenbach. On Jan. 8, 1955, she was married to Gilbert E. “Gil” Partridge, who predeceased her on Nov. 2, 2013 after 59 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her grandson, Dustin Partridge; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Leona Luckenbach and Hayden “Junior” and Barbara Luckenbach.
A graduate of Wayland Central School, class of 1953, Ellie was a graduate of the Arnot-Ogden Hospital School of Nursing in Elmira in 1956. She was employed as a nurse at the former Wayland Hospital and at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath, where she also attended a course and received her certification to be a lab technician. Ellie continued her employment at Ira Davenport Hospital as a lab technician before she became employed for 20 years at the Dormann Library in Bath.
She was a very active member of the Avoca United Methodist Church, where she served as the secretary and volunteered her time on all the boards and committees as well as assisting with church dinners. A member of the United Methodist Women, Ellie was also a member of the Steuben County, Wayland and Avoca Historical Societies, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was a member of the Jolly Campers Club.
An avid reader, she also enjoyed camping, scrapbooking, knitting, crafts, snowmobiling, gardening and painting crafts that Gil made.
Her loving family includes her five children, Greg (Doug Potter) of Rochester, Ross (Sandy) Partridge of Avoca, Jan (Dick) Hargraves, Bill (Laurie) Partridge and Gail (Mike) Geffers all of Bath; her seven grandchildren, Craig (Regina) Hargraves, Nick (Diane) Burleson, Lindsie (Eric) Meese, Casey Yartym, Trista Partridge (Chris Sullivan), Brittany Geffers and Brett Partridge; her six great-grandchildren; her two brothers, Lester (Sue) Luckenbach of Pennsylvania and Donald “Red” (Alice) Luckenbach of South Carolina; her in-laws, Melvin (Erma) Partridge, Virginia Burritt and Carolyn Partridge; also her numerous nieces and nephews.
The Avoca Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Eleanor “Ellie” Partridge.
Calling hours are from 3-6 p.m. Monday at the Avoca United Methodist Church, Jacobs Ladder Road, where a funeral service will be held following calling hours at 6 p.m. Monday with Pastor Barre Butts officiating. Committal services and interment will be at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
