|NORTH HORNELL-William J. Wintermute, Sr., 75, passed away, in the presence of his loving family, early Tuesday morning (June 3, 2014) at his home on Cleveland Avenue.
Born in Newton, N.J. on December 17, 1938, he was a son of the late William O. and Mary Farrott Wintermute. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his granddaughter, Brooke Nicole Weyand and his sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Bill Oswin.
A graduate of North Hunterdon High School (Clinton, N.J.), class of 1955, Bill proudly served his country with the U.S. Marine Corp from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1960 as a Corporal E4.
He was employed for 25 years at the Somerset County Court House in Somerville, N.J., retiring as a Civil Assignment Clerk.
Throughout the years Bill and Louise have lived in various states including, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Texas before becoming residents of the Village of North Hornell five years ago.
A member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, Bill was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where he was a member of the Resurrection Choir.
He loved to play golf and also enjoyed cars and building furniture.
His loving family includes his wife of 54 years the former, Louise A. Beckwith, who he married on May 21, 1960 in Clinton, N.J.; his four children, Cheryl (Stephen) Roth of Sergeantsville, N.J., Linda (David) Weyand of Hornell, William J. WIntermute, Jr. of Rushford and David S. (Amy) Wintermute of Argyle, TX; his five granddaughters, Audrey, Anna and Claire Weyand, Emily Louise (Derek) Zimmerman and Rylee Ann Wintermute; his great-granddaughter, Hannah Marie Zimmerman; his twin brother, Jack (Holly) Wintermute of Willsboro, N.Y.; his two sisters, Ginger (Bob) Castranova and Bette Price all of Texas; also his many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. A Mass to celebrate the Christian Burial will be at St. Ann’s Church at 10 a.m. Friday. All are welcome! Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
The United States flag and the Marine Corps flag will proudly fly at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in recognition of Bill’s service with the Marine Corps.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to either, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Hope Lodge (Hospitality House of Rochester), 1120 South Goodman St., Rochester, N.Y. 14620. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
