|GILBERT E. "GIL" PARTRIDGE
AVOCA-Gilbert E. "Gil" Partridge, 77, of County Route 6, passed away Saturday morning (Nov. 2, 2013) at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath, surrounded by his family.
Born in Wallace on Dec. 15, 1935, he was a son of the late George and Margery Edwards Partridge. On Jan. 8, 1955, he was married in Wayland to the former Eleanor Luckenbach, who survives.
Gil attended Avoca Central School and before he retired he was employed as auto mechanic for the former Perry & Thompson Ford Mercury in Bath.
An active member of the Avoca United Methodist Church, he served as head usher, a trustee and was president of the Administrative Council as well as a member of the "Ramp Guys."
He was a member and commissioner of the Wallace Fire Department, a member and Past-President of the Avoca Historical Society and also served as a member of the Avoca Town Board and Planning Board.
Gil enjoyed cars, trains, woodworking, snowmobiling and camping where he liked to make homemade ice cream.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his grandson, Dustin Partridge and his three brothers, Edward, Carl and Spence Partridge.
His loving family includes his wife of nearly 59 years, Eleanor "Ellie"; his five children, Greg (Doug Potter) Partridge of Rochester, Ross (Sandy) Partridge of Avoca, Jan (Dick) Hargraves , Bill (Laurie) Partridge and Gail (Mike) Geffers all of Bath; his seven grandchildren, Craig (Regina) Hargraves, Nick (Diane) Burleson, Lindsie (Eric) Meese, Casey Yartym, Trista Partridge, Brittany Geffers and Brett Partridge; his six great-grandchildren; his brother, Melvin (Erma) Partridge of Avoca; his two sisters, Virginia Burritt of Hornell and Carolyn Partridge of Tennesee; also his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at the Avoca United Methodist Church, Jacobs Ladder Road, where a funeral service will be held following calling hours at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Barre Butts officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
