|MARY ANN DONAVON
ROCHESTER/HORNELL-Mary Ann Donavon, 54, of Rochester, formerly of Hornell, passed away Saturday evening (Oct. 12, 2013) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born in Hornell on April 19, 1959, she was a daughter of James and Rachel Giglio Donavon.
A graduate of the former Irving School and Hornell High School, class of 1977, Mary Ann also attended Mercyhurst College and received an associate's degree from Monroe Community College. During her years at Hornell High School she was a member of the band, played the flute and was a majorette. She was also a lifeguard and enjoyed figure skating. She was a beautiful seamstress and loved to bake. She could do just about anything and do it better than anyone else. During the first 16 years of her life, she excelled at everything she pursued.
For more than 30 years Mary Ann resided in Rochester and was most recently employed at the Rochester Psychiatric Center in food service. Mary Ann enjoyed knitting and was a friend to many at the Cornerstone Community where she resided for the past six years. Through most of her adult life she courageously dealt with many challenges due to her mental illness.
She was predeceased by her father, James Donavon and her sister, Kelly Ann Donavon.
Her loving family includes her mother, Rachel of Hornell; her brother, Thomas Donavon of Salt Lake City, Utah; her three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Weyand of Bay City, Mich, Mary Patricia (Daniel) Schum of Rochester and Mary Margaret (Howard) Silverstein of Montclair, N.J.; her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; her aunt, Eleanor McCaul of Hornell; and several cousins.
Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
