Avoca Lois B. Van Wormer Towner, 89, from Wallace went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 19, 2013.

Lois Minerva Bauter was born November 3, 1923 in Wheeler to Marion Bauter and Ionia Olmsted Bauter. She graduated from Avoca Central School in1940 and attended Buffalo State College majoring in home economics.

Lois married Noah H. Van Wormer, May 20, 1944. Noah passed away December 27, 1989. Their children are Vicki (James) Grace from Waverly, Jay (Diane) Van Wormer from Cohocton, and James (Sharon) Van Wormer also from Cohocton. She has 8 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jeff) Grossman, Marcella Anglisano, Wendy (Nate) Brinckerhoff, Susan (Eric)Larson, Peter (Bess) Witcosky, Amy (Jerry) Stewart, Alyssa Van Wormer, and Jaynee Van Wormer. She is also survived by a special friend who was like a grandson Dan (Karen) Stone. She has 9 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Connor Stewart, Abigail and Sage Brinckeroff, Jacob and Zachary Grossman, Hayden and Rylen Larson, and Henry Witcosky.

On September 4, 2002 she married her loving husband Woodrow Towner. Her stepchildren are Kenneth (Arlene) Towner, David (Joy) Towner, and Douglas (Lori) Towner. She is also survived by several step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Special in her life was her only sibling Lawrence Bauter who passed away June 21, 2013. She was also predeceased by Lawrence's wife and her close friend Winifred. Lois is survived by her nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren

Lois and her husband Noah spent many happy and busy years raising their family and operating their farm. She was also very active in church and community including Extension, PTA, and 4-H. Besides enjoying her family to the utmost, she had a great desire to show others the Christian faith and had a Bible study group in her home and Five Day Clubs (Child Evangelism) for many summers. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School etc. She loved people, especially children. She grew roses and often gave them to shut-ins on whom she called.

Calling hours are 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM today (Sunday) September 22 at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca and Monday September 23 at 10:00 AM at the Wallace Wesleyan Church followed by the funeral there at 11:00 AM. Pastor Bill Spencer and Pastor Dan Pickering will lead the service. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Avoca.
