|CARL A. PETERSON
AVOCA-Carl A. Peterson, 76, of 32 N. Main St., Avoca, formerly of Belmont, went home to be with his Lord on Monday (Sept. 16, 2013) at his home, while surrounded by his family, following a long illness.
Born in Belmont on July 25, 1937, he was a son of the late Victor and Ruby Peterson. On Oct. 16, 1956 he was married in Angelica to the former Marilyn G. Hooker, who survives.
A graduate of Belmont Central School, class of 1955, Carl also graduated from Alfred State College in 1969 and he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from July of 1955 to Jan. of 1959, serving in the USA and Turkey.
For 21 years he was employed at Air Preheater in Wellsville and for 15 years he was employed as the Director of Employment Training for Allegany County, retiring in 1999.
Carl served on the Belmont Central School Board for seven years and the Allegany County Accord Board for 20 years as well as the Private Industry Council.
Over the years he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belmont, the Angelica Bible Church and the Wellsville Bible Church. He served the Lord in various ways including Deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth leader and he participated musically in many ways. Since moving to Avoca he has been a member of the Avoca Baptist Church.
Besides his father and mother, he was also predeceased by his two sisters, Sally Bassinger and Carol Burdick.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Marilyn; his brother, Donald Peterson of Wellsville; his sister, June (Herb) Harrington of Belmont; his three sons, Tim (Cindy) Peterson of Avoca, Todd (Ginger) Peterson of Chambersburg, Pa and Tom (Renee) Peterson of Hagerstown, MD; his seven grandchildren, Lee Peterson and Melissa (Tom) Edwards of Avoca, Derek Peterson of Philadelphia, PA, Brittany and Kelsie Peterson of Chambersburg, PA, Marcus (Amanda) Peterson of Savanah GA and Kayla Peterson of Staunton, VA; his four great-grandchildren, Anthony, Noah, Coryn and Ty all of Avoca; also his special niece, Bethany (Dave) Tickle of Rochester; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Over the years Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an accomplished woodworker. He took great joy in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed many types of music and shared this love with his family. Carl sang in many quartets over the years and loved quartet music.
Calling hours are from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at the Avoca Baptist Church, 1 Church St., Avoca, where a memorial and committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Interment will be in Bath National Cemetery.
