|WINKY A. (MARKHAM) BALLOCH
HORNELL-Winky A. (Markham) Balloch, 68, of Allen St., passed away early Sunday morning (Aug. 25, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.
Born in Hornell on Oct. 16, 1944, she was the daughter of Charles Markham, who predeceased her and June Shattuck Markham, who survives.
A graduate of St. Ann's School and Hornell High School, class of 1963, Winky also attended Alfred State College.
She resided in Rowayton, Conn. and Topsfield, Mass. before returning to Hornell 15 years ago.
For over 10 years, Winky has been employed with custodial services at Alfred State College.
The most important things to her were her family and friends; she considered them her purpose in life. Winky dearly loved her grandchildren and was known as a very emphatic grandmother.
She will be remembered for entertaining with great passion and she always felt the presentation was just as important as the taste of the food. When she was not entertaining, she was most likely passionately involved in a game of Texas Hold'em.
During her recent illness she has been tremendously supported by her family, friends and co-workers at Alfred State College.
Her loving family includes her mother, June Markham of Hornell; her two daughters, Brittanie (Gary) Balloch Mulkigian of Exeter, N.H. and Christi Balloch of New Market, N.H.; her two brothers, Jack (Linda) Markham and Patrick Markham all of Hornell; also her three nieces, Kim (Ritch) Edinger, Kelly (Dave) Hamsher and Kara Markham (Jake Coons).
There will be an hour of calling from 10-11a.m. Thursday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held in her memory at 11 a.m. Thursday, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.
Those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
