LIMA/NORTH HORNELL-Former North Hornell Village Clerk, Marilyn D. Heers, 78 of Lima, formerly of North Hornell, passed away Friday morning (April 26, 2013) at Highland Hospital in Rochester, after a brief illness.

Born in Hornell on May 13, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Lee and Beulah Canfield Simms. On Aug. 29, 1964, she was married in Hornell to Roger B. Heers, who predeceased her on April 30, 2011 after nearly 47 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Virginia Simms Bayly and her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Patricia Simms and Charles and Annabelle Simms.

A graduate of Hornell High School, Marilyn resided in the Village of North Hornell for 43 years before moving to Lima about six years ago.

In her younger years she was employed as a telephone operator in Hornell and for nearly 35 years she was employed as the North Hornell Village Clerk and later also served as the village treasurer.

Marilyn was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Hornell and was an avid reader; she also especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

Her family includes her two daughters, Melissa (Russ) Holsopple of Lima and Kristen (Russ) Dack of Mendon; her four grandchildren, Morgan and Abbey Holsopple and Owen and Olivia Dack; also her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. A funeral and committal service will be held in her memory at 11 a.m. Friday at the Davidson Memorial Chapel of the United Presbyterian Church in Hornell, with the Rev. Virginia Murray officiating. Interment will be in Bath National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either the United Presbyterian Church, 150 Main St., Hornell or to the Hornell Public Library, 64 Genesee St., Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
