Frederick C. Wirth

HORNELL-Frederick C. Wirth, 81, of Jane Street, passed away Thursday (April 15, 2021) at Hornell Gardens where he has resided the past five months.

Born in Albion, NY on December 12, 1939 he was a son of the late Grover Charles Wirth and Nellie Polamatier. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one brother, Harry A. Wirth; several aunts, uncles and friends.

He attended school in Albion, NY and has resided in the Bath, NY and Hornell area for most of his life.

Fred proudly served his country with the Army National Guard and also served in Korea and Vietnam with the U.S. Air Force from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1962.

He was an avid fan of John Wayne and enjoyed watching old western movies on TV and going to his favorite restaurant, Ponderosa. He also especially like to spend time reading the Bible, walking and listening to 60’s music. Throughout the years Fred was very generous in donating to military related organizations.

His family includes five daughters, Rebekah Hayes (Leonard Wagner) of Cohocton, NY; “step-friend” Randy; Laura (Lorie) Finn of Rochester, Kimberly McCollumn of Pennsylvania; Karen Cook of Florida and Kathy Cook of Rochester; grandchildren, Zachary Shauf of Addison, NY, Domanic Davidson of Corning, NY, Gracie Wirth and Madelyn Wagner both of Cohocton, NY, William Hall and Marie Hall both of Corning, NY, Caitlin Wakefield of Bath, NY, Shawna Wakefield of Pennsylvania, Brandan, Sean and Ryan Finn all of Rochester, Andrew McCollum, Trevor McCollum, Dylan McCollum, Ethan McCollumn , Noah McCollum all of Pennsylvania, Steven Cook, Timothy Cook and Jerry Cook all of Rochester, NY, Carla, Kathleen and Julie; as well as 12 great-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to join his family at Bath National Cemetery where a funeral and committal service, with military honors, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday (April 23, 2021). Those attending will be required to wear face masks and practice social distancing.
