|William J. Hogan, Jr.
OCALA, FLA./AVOCA-William J. Hogan, Jr., 93, formerly of Avoca, passed away Sunday (Sept. 22, 2019) in Ocala, Fla.
Born in Astoria, N.Y. on Aug. 12, 1926, he was a son of the late William J. and Ellen (May) Hogan. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one son, William “Chubby” Hogan; one granddaughter, Deborah “Goldie Locks” Saltsman and two brothers, Garrett and Ronald Hogan.
A graduate of Cornell University, Bill proudly served his country with the United States Army.
Throughout the years he owned and operated a general store, was employed as a liquor salesman, a butcher and a beef cattle farmer. He will be remembered for being a “Jack of all trades.”
Bill was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and enjoyed fishing, raising angel fish and playing bocce ball.
His loving family includes his two daughters, Janet (Bernie) Towner and Linda (Lonnie) Barrett; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Danaher; as well as his flea hound, Mopar-ra.
The Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca was honored to serve the family of William J. Hogan, Jr.
To honor his wishes there were no calling hours. A private service was held at the convenience of his family. Interment followed at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
