REXVILLE-David Eugene Groves, 61, passed away unexpectedly Monday (April 15, 2019) at his home on County Route 60.

Born in North Hornell on April 28, 1957, he was a son of the late Frederick and Minzie (Stage) Groves. Besides his parents he was also predeceased by five sisters, Mabel Ellen Groves, Nancy Fisk, Sandy Rinaldi, Trudy Snyder and Rosemary Hadsell; four brothers-in-law, Wayne “Pee Wee” Rinaldi, David Stiles, Les Mead and Clint Hadsell; two nieces, Tonya Mead and Heather Rivera; also his mother-in-in-law, Margaret Jackson and a special aunt and uncle, Jean and John Ebner.

A resident of Hornell for most of his life, David attended Hornell High School and was one of the original members of the “Hill Gang” on West Street. He has resided at his home in Rexville for the past year.

He was formerly employed for Morrison-Knudsen in Hornell, ADtranz in Elmira and most recently worked for TTA in Hornell.

David was an avid hunter and was a member of the Canisteo Rod and Gun Club. He also especially enjoyed spending time with his “partner in crime” and grandson, Matthew Kennell.

His loving family includes his wife of 34 years, the former Anna M. Jackson who he married in Hornell on Aug. 18, 1984; three children, Nikki (Steve) Kennell of Greenwood, Michael Groves and Joshua Groves both of Rexville; one stepson, Ricky (Kristina) Masterson of Canisteo; six grandchildren, Matthew Kennell, Kiley Walsh Kennell, Carissa Masterson, Alyssa Masterson, Lilly Masterson and Price Masterson; three sisters, Betty Stiles and Candy Mead both of Hornell and Theresa Crews of Texas; five brothers, Steve (Sue) Groves of Hornell, John (Kathie) Groves of Almond, Richard (Lori) Fisk of Hornell, Rick (Shirley) Groves of Cameron, and Jay (Lisa) Ebner of Canisteo; also a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Andy and Kelly Jackson of Andover; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to serve the family of David Eugene Groves.

To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A gathering for family and friends will be announced at a later date.
