ALMOND/HORNELL-Gerald E. Barney, 86, formerly of McHenry Valley Road, Almond, passed away Saturday evening (Jan. 19, 2018) at Hornell Gardens.
Born in Hornell on Aug. 11, 1932, he was the son of the late David and Gertrude (Orton) Barney. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his first wife, Patricia (Hanks) Barney; and his three sisters, Mary Barney, Lois Farnsworth and Phyllis Minnich.
A resident of Hornell and Almond for most of his life, Jerry was a graduate of Hornell High School and proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1951 to his honorable discharge in 1955.
He was employed by the former Erie and Erie-Lackawanna Railroads, before retiring from Conrail as an Engineer.
His family includes his two children, Michael (Patricia) Barney of Scio and Debra McElhenny (Kevin Johnson) of Hornell; his two grandsons, Ryan (Stephanie) McElhenny of Purceville VA and Christopher McElhenny of Herdon VA, one great-grandchild, his second wife, Sandy Wells; his two sisters, Donna DeSanto and Linda (Joseph) Dick; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to serve the family of Gerald E. Barney.
