|Frederick J. Calnan
DANSVILLE-Frederick J. Calnan, 69, of Circle Road, peacefully entered into rest early Thursday morning (Nov. 1, 2018) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Hornell on Nov. 13, 1948 he was a son of the late Richard and Elizabeth (Rink) Calnan.
A former resident of Arkport, Fred has resided in Dansville for the past 45 years. He was a graduate of Arkport Central School, class of 1966 and also attended Syracuse University School of Forestry; afterwards he proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. In 1986 he graduated Suma Cum Laude from Alfred University School of Ceramics with a Ceramic Engineering degree.
At one time, after the Army, Fred was employed as a road construction foreman. After graduating from Alfred, he held numerous management positions in the ceramic engineering field.
Throughout the years he served as a Boy Scout Leader and as a Little League Baseball Coach and was presently a member of the Daniel Goho American Legion Post #87 in Dansville, the Dansville Rod and Gun Club and the Dansville Area Historical Society.
Fred loved Golden Retrievers and was an avid old car enthusiast. He also enjoyed spending time doing woodworking, gardening and yard work, including plowing snow. Most importantly, Fred loved spending time with the grandboys, attending almost all of their games and activities. His greatest pleasure was helping them learn about area and American history.
His loving family includes his wife of 45 years, the former Barbara Evans who he married in Hornell on June 16, 1973; their son, Richard Calnan of Geneseo; his two beloved grandsons, Reilly (age 10) and Connor (age 13); his two sisters, Mary (Stephen) Curtis of Hornell and Sandra (William) Karns of Arkport; his brother, William (Mary) Calnan of Baldwinsville; his Golden Retriever companion, Midas; his nieces and nephews, Debra Raffa, Amanda Karns-Armeli, Edward Karns, Laura George, Matthew Calnan and Shawn Calnan; his great-nieces and nephews, Brooke, Haley and Kyle Armeli, Felicity and Lydia Karns and Rachel George; also his two aunts, Lucille Brown of Rochester and Eleanor Rink of Florida; his uncle, Thomas (Martha) Rink of Arkport; as well as several cousins.

Calling hours are 1-3 p.m. Sunday (please note location) at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville, where a funeral service will be held in his memory following the calling hours at 3 p.m. Sunday.
