ALMOND-Helen “Wheeze” (Casey) Ells, 69, of Sherwood Lane, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, early Sunday morning (Oct. 7, 2018) at the Vincent House in Wayland.
Born in Hornell on Aug. 26, 1949, she was the youngest of nine children born to the late Patrick and Helen (Fitzgibbons) Casey. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Patricia Ann Casey and her three brothers, James, John and David Casey.
A lifelong resident of the Hornell-Almond area, Wheeze was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1967.
Wheeze was employed with Head Start, the former Tuttle and Rockwell and before her retirement she worked for 22 years as a teacher’s aide for Steuben-Allegany BOCES in Hornell.
Her loving family includes her husband of 50 years, William Ells, who she married at the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Hornell on Jan. 27, 1968; her three children, David (Lisa) Ells of Rochester, N.Y., Christopher (Polly) Ells of Fulton, N.Y. and Jennifer (Donald) Mentiply of Delanson, N.Y.; her three grandchildren, Declan Casey Ells, Harper Christine Ells and Samantha Ann Mentiply; her two sisters, Sister M. Veronica Casey, RSM of Rochester and Margaret (Joseph) Latham of Canisteo; her two brothers, Joseph (Dolores) Casey of Palm Desert, Calif. and Daniel (Sandy) Casey of Altoona, Pa.; her three sisters-in-law, Janet Casey of Wellsville, Sandra Casey of Churchville and Nora Casey of Rochester, her brothers-in-law, James (Nancy) Ells of Campbell and Stanley (Diane) Ells of Arkport; as well as 29 nieces and nephews and over 50 great-nieces and nephews; also many cousins.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to serve the family of Helen “Wheeze” (Casey) Ells.
To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her memory at 10:00 a.m. on Friday (Oct. 12, 2018) at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. Committal prayers and interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont at the convenience of the family.
