COHOCTON/HORNELL-Matthew J. Capluzzi, 32, of Cohocton, formerly of Hornell, passed away suddenly on Friday (Jan. 5, 2018) at his home on State Route 371 in Cohocton.

Born in Hornell on May 17, 1985, Matt attended Hornell High School and resided in Hornell before moving to Cohocton nine years ago.

He was a very talented mechanic who has been employed at Main Tire in Dansville and S & S Repair and Riverside Repair in Hornell. Most recently he was employed with his long-time best friend, Brian Butler at Butler Contracting in Hornell.

Matt was an avid hunter and was a member of the National Hunting Assoc. He also enjoyed dirt track motorcycle racing and building his own bikes and mud trucks. He will be remembered most of all for being very kind-hearted person who was always willing to help others.

His loving family includes his mother, Vicki Capluzzi-Hallett of Hornell; his daughter, Natalie Capluzzi of Howard; his brothers, Joseph (Heather) Capluzzi of Bath, Paul Capluzzi, Justin Brown, Ben Brown and James Brown all of Hornell; his fiancé, Kate Schwingel and her children, Shelby and Blake Schwingel all of Cohocton; his nieces, Lauren, Alysa, Emily and Allison Capluzzi, Brandy Capluzzi-Bizzell, Amanda Witter, Mackenzie and Eviana Brown; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, James Capluzzi Sr. and Patricia (Crowe) Capluzzi and his brother, James Capluzzi, Jr.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Matthew J. Capluzzi.

Calling hours are 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 13, 2018) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held in his memory following calling hours at 1 p.m. Saturday, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the American Heart Assoc., P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
