Linda Rhodes Brace Streicher

PIKESVILLE, Md./ALMOND-Linda Rhodes Brace Streicher, age 72, of Pikesville Maryland, formerly of Almond, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 31, 2017), after complications from surgery. Linda was born on September 22, 1945, at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland to John Andrew and Grace Wild Rhodes. She married John Michael Brace on June 24, 1967, in Villanova Pennsylvania, who predeceased her in 1986. On April 28, 1989, she married Thomas Eric Streicher in Hornell, New York, and they enjoyed a long life together.

In 1963, she graduated from Radnor High School in Pennsylvania, where she was an accomplished athlete, participating in varsity lacrosse and field hockey. She swam competitively through the local YMCA and spent her summers in the Poconos teaching water skiing and performing in water ski shows. In 1967, Linda graduated from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education, where she was a founding member of a sorority. She received a Master's of Education from Alfred University in 1972. She began her career as an educator at Andover Central School and continued her career at Alfred-Almond Central School, from which she retired in 1989. While at Alfred-Almond, she taught kindergarten, first, third, and fourth grade. Above all, the third grade was her favorite, where she created and continued to recognize many students as the “Top Banana.” Her favorite part of the day was story time, where she adopted special voices for the characters and brought them to life for her students. Throughout her adult life, she lived in Western New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, but always considered Western New York to be her true home.

Linda was never afraid to try something new. She loved to travel and was able to do so extensively within the United States and internationally. She especially enjoyed San Francisco, Alaska, Italy, and European River Cruises. Her most cherished was the annual weeklong vacation at the New Jersey shore with her children and their families. Trips to New York City to see Broadway Shows and Operas at The Met were some of her favorite activities spent together with Tom. She was an avid reader, foodie, and a tremendous cook with a knack for replicating gourmet restaurant meals in her own kitchen.

Linda is survived by her husband, Thomas Eric Streicher of Pikesville Maryland; her children, Theresa (Terry Little) Brace, Laura (Quentin Castle) Brace, Michael (Trisha) Streicher; grandchildren, Tyler Marie Little, Jordan Michelle Little, John Andrew Castle, Alex Michael Castle, Charles Alexander Pedigo, and Clara June Streicher; brothers, Robert (Cynthia) Rhodes, John (Susan) Rhodes; several nieces, nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, John Andrew and Grace Wild Rhodes, and her first husband, John Michael Brace.
