Kathleen J. (McEntee) Steirer

CANISTEO-Kathleen J. (McEntee) Steirer, 59, of East Main Street, passed away Thursday morning (Oct. 5, 2017) at the Vincent House in Wayland, after a long battle with lung cancer.

Born in Hornell on May 14, 1958, she was a daughter of the late Edward P. “Pat” McEntee, Sr. and Katherine “Katie” (Wheeler) McEntee. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her two brother, Patrick and Michael McEntee.

A graduate of St. Ann’s School in Hornell, Kathleen and her family moved to Lake Zurich, Ill. in 1971 where she graduated from Lake Zurich Senior High School. She also attended College of Lake County in Grayslake, Ill. and the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill.; about three years ago she also pursued a humanities degree from Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, N.Y.

At one time she was employed for Commonwealth Edison in Lombard, Ill. before she eventually returned to New York State in 1990 to reside in Penn Yan; where she operated a day care from 1995-2009.

Kathleen, who loved to spend time reading, also resided at Lake Demmon and Bath before becoming a resident of Canisteo several months ago.

Her loving family includes her two children, Patrick Steirer of Canisteo and Molly Steirer of Geneva, N.Y.; her three grandchildren, Kiah McEntee, Nolan Crossno and Claire Crossno; her sister, Nora McEntee of Cohocton; her brother, Timothy (Michelle) McEntee of Streamwood, Ill; as well as her nieces, nephews and cousins.
