Born September 17, 1923 in North Hornell to Milton R. and Augusta Schultz Johnson. A 1942 graduate of Hornell High School. He served three-and-a-half years in the Army Air Corps Air Transport Command stationed at Gaya and Khyber Pass, India. Owner of Waldorf’s Jewelers and a certified gemologist by the Gemological Institute of America. After retirement, he kept busy repairing clocks and watches, often travelling the region to repair grandfather clocks.

He served as a North Hornell Village Justice, and for 26 years as justice for the Town of Hornellsville. His reputation as a judge was “firm but fair.”

A Deacon, Trustee, and 77-year member of the United Presbyterian Church. An avid supporter of outdoor recreation and scouting, John was an Eagle Scout and former Scout Master of Troop 37. His fellow Rotarians awarded him with the Paul Harris Award and he made lasting friendships through the Rotary International exchange program. He was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 331 F. & A.M.

He was delighted to participate in Honor Flight as a World War II Veteran to visit the war memorials and meet with Sen. Bob Dole in Washington, D.C.

John was a member of the American Legion, Hornell YMCA Board of Directors, and the Hornell Alumni Association.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Charles “Chuck” Johnson in 1991. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Wilma Fuhrman Johnson, his daughter Pamela Johnson-Koch (Jack), and granddaughter Sara A. Johnson.

He was a man of dignity and integrity who will be greatly missed.
