|YOLANDA M. “YO” SCAGLIONE
HORNELL-Yolanda M. “Yo” Scaglione, 90, of Church St., passed away Saturday evening (June 10, 2017) at Kent Memorial Hospital in Dover, Delaware.
Born in Hornell on May 23, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Domenic and Theresa (DiVito) DiNardo. On June 11, 1947, she was married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to Thomas J. Scaglione, who passed away on Feb. 10, 2012 after nearly 65 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Joseph M. and Lydia DiNardo; and her two brothers-in-law, Everett Case and John Cardamone, Sr.
A resident of Hornell for most of her life, Yolanda also has resided in Ithaca, Whitney Point and most recently in Magnolia, Delaware. She was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1945 and also received training in multiple Administrative Assistant duties through BOCES.
Before she retired she was employed at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell in both the Purchasing Department and Radiology Department; during that time she attended KODAK certification training for X-O Mat, X-ray film development.
She was an active and devout member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where she served in parish ministry as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister of the Holy Eucharist. Yolanda was also a member of the Ladies of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose and was awarded recognition for 50 years of service. She and her husband, Thomas were active in the Republican Party and were the first couple to receive the Steuben County Republican of the Year Award at the annual Lincoln Day banquet for their dedicated participation and support in local politics. Throughout the years Yolanda also served as President of the St. Ann’s School Mother’s Club and as President of the St. Ann’s Band Parent’s Association.
Yolanda primarily enjoyed spending time with her family. She and her husband, Tommy, enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling around the country to participate in various military and college reunions, and spending time celebrating holidays and special occasions while visiting friends and family during their retirement years together. Her daughters managed to convince her to visit Disney World in Orlando, Fla. with them and her grandchildren five times. Her dedication to her family was only surpassed by her faith and love of God and her country. She, like her husband and family, had a very strong Catholic faith life, and right up until the last moments of life participated in prayer and reception of the Eucharist.
Her loving family includes her two daughters, Donna M. (Carl) Roosa of Magnolia, Delaware and Ann M. (Kevin) Quinn of Rochester; her six grandchildren, Jennifer Roosa, Krista (Zach) Atkinson, Lauren (Kevin) Gravatt all of Delaware; Kelly Quinn, Thomas J. Quinn and Sean Quinn all of Rochester; her four great-grandchildren, Jordyn Ford of Delaware, Domenic Quinn and Christopher McPherson of Rochester and soon to be, Thomas J. Quinn, Jr. also of Rochester; her two sisters, Helen Case and Mary Theresa Cardamone both of Hornell; her brother, Domenic Jr. (Janet) DiNardo of Corning; also several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; as well as many cousins, classmates and friends from all around the country.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Yolanda M. “Yo” Scaglione.
Calling hours are 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Relatives and friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
