In Memory of
David John "Hub Boy" Hubbard Sr.


AVOCA-David J. “Hub Boy” Hubbard, Sr., 76, passed away early Thursday morning (Dec. 29, 2016) at his home on County Route 70A.
Born in Avoca on Sept. 22, 1940, he was the son of the late Albert and Marian (Schmitz) Hubbard.
A graduate of Avoca Central School, class of 1958, David also served with the National Guard.
He was a life time farmer and was involved in dairy, potato and grain farming. In 1992 he founded Hub Boy Gravel and throughout the years David also designed and built equipment to suit the needs of his farm and gravel pit. In 1974 he took the year off to build a log cabin on Mackey Road.
For years David was an “endman” in the Lions Club minstrel show and will be remembered most of for his willingness to help others without expecting anything in return.
His loving family includes his devoted wife of 57 years, the former Gretchen Narby, who he married on Nov. 28, 1959; his son, David Hubbard, Jr. and his son, Will (Maeghan) Hubbard and their son, Jaxon; his son, Daniel (Karron) Hubbard and their daughter, Ashley Sick and her children, Cadence, Kendall, Brenna, Brayleigh, their son, Andrew (Megan) Hubbard and their children Hayden and Maggie and their daughter, Emily Hubbard; his daughter, Suzanne (Jeff) Luckenbach and their children, Heather Hamilton and Kyle Ortiz, Melanie Vinluan and her two children, Olivia and Sophia, and their son, Austin (Tiffany) Luckenbach and their son, Austin Luckenbach, Jr.; his daughter, Stephanie (Bruce Keesey) Manciocchi; and her children, Devin Manciocchi (Amanda King), Austin Manciocchi and Paige Manciocchi; his son, Tim (Cindy) Hubbard and their children, Chris Young and his son, Jackson, and their children, Hannah Hubbard and Alex Hubbard; as well as his two sisters, Nancy (William) Slayton and Rosemary Clairemont.

Calling hours are 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Friday (Jan. 13, 2017) at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral service will be held in his memory following calling hours at 7 p.m. Friday. Everyone is welcome to a celebration of life and a luncheon from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 14, 2017) at the Howard Community Center.
He has gone to join his parents and his grandson, Logan Manciocchi, who he fondly called his “Little Dude.”
