In Memory of
Roy William Koehler

AVOCA - Roy William Koehler left our lives on December 24, 2015 at the home he lovingly restored for his family in Avoca, N.Y. He was born January 22, 1953 in Kew Gardens, Queens, N.Y.
Roy was predeceased by his parents, Harold William Koehler and Dorothea Mae (Krank) Koehler.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Deborah (Sheldon) Koehler; his loving and supportive children: Frank William (Beverly) Koehler, Carl Koehler, Cassie Koehler-Riekofski (Kevin), and Kristopher Koehler; by his grandchildren: Calieh Koehler, Tyler Hillman, Hailee Hillman, and Cody Riekofski; by his sisters, Arlene (Tom) Burkman and Lorraine Koehler-Thompson; and by his nieces and nephews: Jennifer Ellis, Aaron (Katie) Ellis, Corinne (Ryan) Pierce, and Sharayah (Andrew) Warren.
Roy was happiest when helping others. He was selfless and giving of his time and talents, always sharing and putting others first. He found great satisfaction in fixing things. Roy’s lifelong love of cars and trucks was reflected in his career – he was recently recognized by UPS for 30 years of service as a fleet mechanic, and previously worked as mechanic/dispatcher for Seaman Bus Company in Shoreham, LI, NY; at ABI Auto Parts in Port Jefferson, LI, NY and at Rocky Point Auto Parts in Rocky Point, LI, NY. Roy’s hobbies included classic car restoration, woodworking, RVing, and home renovations. As an FCC-licensed ham radio operator (KB2WXV), he served for many years as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Repeater Trustee of the Keuka Lake Amateur Radio Association (KLARA). For many years, he coordinated volunteer communicators for the WineGlass Marathon and the Wine Country Classic Boats Regatta. Many amateur radio operators have learned from his skills.
Roy and his family attended Haskinville Wesleyan Church. Over the years, his hands-on experience benefited the congregation in many ways, including miscellaneous repairs and snow plowing.
His family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to friends who have visited, supplied meals, and otherwise supported us during this difficult time. We also appreciate the skills and compassion of Wilmot Cancer Center, the Visiting Nurse Association, and CareFirst Hospice staff.
